      Folded letter written at Ernestown 24 AU 1818, rated ms ‘1N2’ to Montreal, travelled via Kingston 31 AUG with fine strike of KINGSTON straight line despatch (CS type II) across backflap and very fine strike of the rare S. B*Frontenac straight line on front (The ‘Frontenac’ was the first Canadian Steamboat operating on the Great Lakes), the rarest of all the Steamboat markings by far and this is the best strike of the three recorded, cover with light filing fold, otherwise fine.

      F2(3): - faulty strip of 3, pre-cancelled as usual with scarce NUMERAL GRID ‘10’ cancels (Williams Creek, RF4) on GOLD RUSH cover to Aylmer, Canada West, straight line PAID handstamp (BC stamps pay 9d internal rate down the Cariboo Trail), with 3 JUNE GPO receiver applied at Vancouver, 10¢ green Washington tied by San Francisco duplex pays the US rate to Canada and additional San Francisco 19 JUN 1865 c.d.s. ties BC stamps, with red ‘US 10c PAID’ exchange mark, 17 JY receiver on back, some faults, still a VERY RARE & DESIRABLE RATE cover, ex Nickle. (a similar cover from the same correspondence sold at the Welburn auction for $4750).
