FOREWORD

  • Our October auction was very successful, despite the concerns that other financial markets would have a negative effect on the stamp market and stamp collecting in general. Collector and dealer demand continues stronger than ever for philatelic material across the board. One would think with all current economic uncertainty, stamps and covers would be one of the first markets to suffer, but nothing could be further from the truth. Philately is very different from the investment market since collectors buy and sell for individual reasons. Collectors buy not for need, but for want, and the fact that collectors spend a lifetime building their collections is why they do not all sell at once. That is the reason for the strength and stability in the stamp market.

  • Our shelves are packed once again, and this auction consists of four sessions, the first two containing only Canada. This sale promises to be the sale that has material you did not even know you needed. There are many huge collections and estates, high catalogue value wholesale lots, and many better choice stamps and sets including Jubilees, Admirals, Imperforates and a huge section of modern varieties including mis-perfs, fold-overs, tagging, missing and shifted colours, imperforates, etc, plus Officials, as well as another nice section of Revenues with several large Die Proofs and Essays. The third session of the auction contains Canadian Provinces with an in-depth section of Newfoundland including valuable Pence issue covers, Proofs, mint multiples, imperforates, varieties, etc, plus Great Britain and British Commonwealth. The fourth session contains only Foreign material, and abounds with large and valuable collections, huge properties weighing hundreds of kilograms each, properties as received, intact old-time albums, Zeppelin and flight covers, specialized collections and better individual stamp, sets, multiples, covers, etc. Leave time for inspection.

  • We believe in the continued strength of the stamp market, and in the value of the auction process for both buyers and sellers the way it is practiced here at Maresch. Holding unreserved auctions as we do provides an efficient and profitable method for sellers such as collectors and estates to disperse 'no-longer-wanted' collections to those who do wish to buy them. We provide a marketplace unhindered by false expectations of value such as reserves, and we sell your stamps, covers and collections to a host of several thousands of worldwide collectors and dealers who trust our descriptions and valuations, and who are comfortable with the process of dealing with a firm which has been in business for 85 years.

  • We are now using Expedited Parcel USA as our standard for customers in the United States, which we expect will be better than our previous shipping methods.

  • As we write this foreword, we already have almost half of our next auction sale on hand, which includes another substantial portion of the Bileski estate. Please contact us to find out how to include your collection in our next auction. Including your collection in our next auction is your guarantee of success when selling.
