Company Profile - Who We Are

A Privately Owner Family Business Since 1924

R. Maresch & Son Auctions Ltd., is Canada's largest stamp auction firm. For over 80 years, Maresch has been recognized internationally for its knowledge, honesty, and integrity. Dr. Richard A. Maresch, a collector since 1904, commenced the firm in 1924 in Vienna, Austria. R. Maresch & son was incorporated in Toronto in 1942 when Bill Maresch joined his father Dr. Maresch. Today our firm is run by the third generation, Tony and Peter Maresch. R. Maresch & Son is the only Canadian stamp dealers to have a booth at every CAPEX International Stamp Exhibition since the very first show in 1951.

We handle more Canada and Provinces than anyone else and always have a significant amount of British Commonwealth and Foreign material. Our auctions are unreserved, and very diverse, with fresh and new material in each sale. From valuable rarities, to large and bulky lots, each stamp, collection, cover, and anything of philatelic merit is lotted to its best advantage. Sales typically contain 2500 to 3000 lots, split into 3 or 4 sessions that are held over a 3 day period, giving out of town customers the flexibility to participate on the auction floor when they need to. Catalogues are fully illustrated in accurate colour and many have become reference works for the philatelic enthusiast. With each auction thousands of catalogues are printed and mailed to customers all over the world.

Our evaluations are handled efficiently and in a friendly and professional manner using the utmost care. Appraisals, by appointment, are free if the collection being appraised is sold within a 12 month period. Some of the finest award-winning collections ever sold in Canada were handled by R. Maresch & Son Auctions Ltd.

The stamp market at Maresch is always strong. Catalogue values rise and fall, depending on the publisher's perception and interpretation of the stamp market, but the valuation supplied by Maresch is a real and current picture of actual market conditions and prices as our unreserved public auctions are open to collectors and dealers alike. With this level of knowledge and experience, a Maresch consignor can rely on a realization that is very close to, and in most cases in excess of,  our original estimate.

It has also been the ever-increasing appetite of the thousands of Maresch customers that has effected the rising number of record breaking prices realised. This, of course, results in satisfied and happy consignors. Please read our testimonials page.  It has a few wonderful letters from a few past and current consignors.
